On Saturday, 24 September 2011, the Annual Memory Walk takes place from the
Spa Garden, Cinnamon Grand Colombo at 8.00 a.m.
The annual 5 kilometer ‘Memory Walk’ is the flagship fundraising event of the Lankan Alzheimer’s Foundation. The Walk will enable hundreds of people to step out and support people with dementia and their family carers, and bring awareness to the community.
Family caregivers who usually support the event, turn up in great numbers to participate in this fun walk which has been graciously sponsored by the Cinnamon Grand Colombo which takes to the streets of Colombo on Saturday 24th September.
To quote a caregiver – “Unfortunately I know only too well how devastating Alzheimer’s can be, not only on the person who has been diagnosed, but also on their family and friends. It is a cruel disease, which over time gradually robs you of the person you know and love.
By participating in the Memory Walk you help raise awareness that will make an enormous difference to the lives of people with dementia and their carers”.
One participant said, “I thoroughly enjoy taking part in the Memory Walk and am now urging as many other people as possible, whatever their age, to take part.
The Memory Walk gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the importance of memory, how it shapes who we are and allows us to form relationships with other people.
The Foundation looks forward to the participation of the public.
Do make a commitment and urge friends and family members to join the Memory Walk. For the elders who would still like to be a part of this event, a luxury bus sponsored by Walkers Tours is available to take them through the walk.
An ambulance is also on stand-by just in case of emergencies, while a lot of support from food and water suppliers enhances the event with their strong presence committed to the Foundation over the years.
The finale of the morning is the draw of the Grand Raffle.
