Labour Department officers to strike over salary anomaly

Sep 12, 2011 2:56:20 PM - www.ft.lk

Officers from the Labour Department of Sri Lanka have threatened to strike if the authorities continue to fail to address their salary anomalies.
Officers affiliated to the Government Service Labour Officers’ Association have decided to launch a token strike on 28 September, to demand that authorities resolve their salary anomaly issue.

The Labour officers are to hold a protest outside the Labour Department in Narahenpita after pulling out of work.
The association’s Vice Chairman I.C. Gamage has said the officers would commence a strike from 14 October if the authorities fail to address their demand. He has said the strike would continue until the issue is resolved.
According to Gamage, authorities have failed to address the salary anomalies although they have accepted the issue.
The salary anomalies of the Labour officers have existed for the past six years due to the failure on the part of the authorities to take action in this regard.
