Sri Lanka is extending support to Pakistan in its fight against the dengue virus.
In response to a request from the Government of Pakistan through its High Commission in Colombo, the Sri Lankan government is helping Pakistan’s fight against dengue virus, by sending an 11 member expert team. The team headed by Specialists Dr. Hasitha Tissera has left for Pakistan.
The expert team of dengue eradication will be staying in Pakistan for about 10 days and will be carrying out the need assessment and training of the Pakistan officials. In addition, the expert team will also be carrying along The Sri Lankan Health Authorities had succeeded in controlling dengue related deaths and the spread of the disease within one year. Following this success, the Health Ministry said that the Pakistani Government has solicited Sri Lanka’s support.
During a meeting at the Health Ministry with High Commissioner of Pakistan, Seema Illahi Baloch, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that more teams would be deployed based on the future needs. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie was present at this meeting.
