The Airport Customs have nabbed a Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency. It is considered to the largest stock of foreign currency to be seized at the Airport.
The Customs said that he was arrested at the Katunayake International Airport in the wee hours of today. He was about to board a plane to leave for Singapore. He had attempted to smuggle the currency out of the country in his baggage. The currency had been stashed in three baggages. Customs Director Mali Piyasena led the raid. The value of the currency is said to exceed 80 million rupees.
