20 charged in Midlands drug conspiracy

Twenty Midlands residents charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine or crack cocaine will appear in court Sept. 20 for bond hearings. The 20 were arrested Tuesday after state grand jury indictments and appeared in court for arraignment Wednesday, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles. Tavares Donnay Pollock of Columbia also was arrested, accused of firing on FBI agents who were executing a federal search warrant at one of the homes searched Tuesday. Appearing in court Wednesday were Cortney Williams and Aaron Mccray of West Columbia; Antonio Williams, Eric Williams, Charles Gantt, James Williams, William Holloway, Walter Williams and Lindsay Leaphart of Batesburg-Leesville; Colby Foust, Stanley Partman,, Latasha Sanders, Linda Sanders Rondeal Woods and Darrell Washington of Columbia; Jeffrey Jacobs of Lugoff; and Timothy Geiger, Anthony Thompson, Donnay Rikard and David Quattlebaum of Irmo. The 20 are charged with conspiring to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine and 280 grams or more of crack cocaine, according to Nettles’ office. They will appear again in court Sept. 20. Each faces a mandatory minimum sentence of at least ten years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Prior felony drug convictions may increase the mandatory minimum for some. The case was investigated by the FBI, the IRS, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the State Law Enforcement Division, the Columbia Police Department and the Lexington and Richland County sheriff’s departments.
