SC Guard's military police heading to Afghanistan

Sep 15, 2011 4:08:00 AM - thestate.com
A South Carolina Army National Guard military police unit headquartered in Timmonsville is heading to Texas for training before being deployed to Afghanistan.

Guard spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Joe Cashion says the 170 soldiers are from the 133rd Military Police Company. Cashion says a farewell ceremony is scheduled for Veteran's Park in Florence.

The unit is heading to Fort Bliss, Texas, for about two months of training. It will depart for Afghanistan in mid-November for a nine-month deployment.

Cashion says the unit last deployed to Iraq in 2003.
