The programme of finding expeditious solutions to problems in Urban Housing Complexes is successful. A Mobile Service was launched with the purpose of addressing problems at the Thomas Chongama Housing Complex in Mulleriyawa. It was held under the auspices of Minister Wimal Weerawansa. The Housing Development Authority had granted loans to 13,000 persons for the construction of houses this year. Hitherto loans were given only for the building of 2,000 houses. It is anticipated to increase it three-fold next year.

The Minister said that the National Housing Development Authority had given loans for the building of 2,000 houses last year. It was hoped to increase this to 13,000 houses this year. On behalf of meeting the housing needs of the low income families, he revealed of plans that were underway to increase this figure three fold next year.

The Complex was built in 1987 and was rife with many issues. A programme was also launched to grant deeds after the payment of arrears under a relief payment scheme.
