Minister Faizer Mustapha has said that it is only the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) that grant equal rights to the Tamil and Muslim communities. He emphasized that the support of the Central Government was imperative for urban development. He was addressing newsmen at the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo. The Minister queried whether there was a reason for the Tamil and Muslim communities to vote for the UNP. The reply is “no.” The journey of the country has significantly changed with the total elimination of terrorism. Votes for the Alliance had increased considerably. The Minister was confident that Tamils as well as Muslims would vote for for the ruling party to receive more benefits. Minister Mustapha referred to the immense services discharged by the Government for the welfare of the people. Parliamentarian Prabha Ganeshan said the Government had done much for the Tamil and Muslim civilians. Colombo is very clean today. Colombo is developing step by step under the mediation of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The UNP has today fragmented and he said he was sure that the Tamils will not vote for the party. The Government’s desire is to build houses to replace the shanties. Mr. Ganeshan noted that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had pointed out to them about the false campaign launched by the UNP that the slum dwellers would be evicted from Colombo.
