Temps to plunge at end of the week

High school and college football fans might need to put away the T-shirts and strapless dresses and break out the sweat shirts and cover-ups, as the extreme weather of recent months takes a startling turn tonight.

A cold front moving down from the Midwest will send high temperatures free-falling from the mid 90s today to around 70 on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. That's not a low of 70, folks. The forecast high for Columbia on Friday is around 70.

It'll feel like late fall at football games tonight and Saturday.

While there's a slight chance of rain throughout the next few days, and even a chance of thunderstorms tonight, football game rain should be a light drizzle at the most. But if you want to show off designer galoshes or team-logo rain gear, you could pack them for the trip to the stadium.
