The President has stated that movies such as ‘Gamani’ that display the actual nature of terrorism are a proper answer to the Channel 4 video.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa today launched the website of Gamani which is a movie based on real-life incidents. The movie is based on the attack carried out by the LTTE on the Gonagala village in Ampara hacking 57 innocent civilians to death. The movie displays the harsh life led by the villagers amidst the terrorist threat and the sacrifices made by the security forces. The President noted that there are adequate concepts for movies in the experiences undergone in the past 30 years. He was of the view that Gamani is a movie that should be watched by all as it is based on such experiences. The President stressed that the government would take all measures for the benefit of the film industry and said that Gamani is a proper reply to Channel 4 which attempts to whitewash the LTTE and make absurd allegations. Director of the film Sarath Weerasekara, the artistes and technicians who participated in the making of the film also participated in the occasion.
