The budget proposals pertaining to the Foreign Affairs and Justice Ministries have been presented to the President.
A special discussion pertaining to the 2012 budget proposals in connection with Foreign Affairs and Justice Ministries was held at the Temple Trees. The proposals pertaining to the Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, Justice, Rehabilitation, Prison Reforms and National Languages and Social Integration Ministries were focused upon. They also focused on the delay in the disposal of cases by the Courts and amendments to be effected to the Civil Procedure Code. The President focused on the role of the Foreign Ministry to maintain the image of Sri Lanka in the foreign arena. The President instructed the officials to introduce investment opportunities for migrant workers to make their contribution to the economy. Construction of prisons on lands out of the city and using the inmates to increase productivity also came in for discussion. The President also focused on the future programmes to implement the official languages policy. Ministers G.L. Peiris, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Basil Rajapaksa, Rauf Hakeem, Dilan Perera, Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Deputy Minister Neomal Perera and Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development and Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara also participated in the occasion.
