The historic Dalada Perahera of Dambadeniya was held on a grand scale.
The Perahera consisted of a number of elephants and cultural events. It got underway on the 12th of this month and came to an end after the water cutting ceremony held this morning. A large number of people viewed the Perahera which was held under the instructions of the Chief Incumbent of the Dambadeniya Raja Maha Vihara Ven. Narangoda Sirinivasa Thera. According to history the Dalada Perahera had paraded a distance of 50 miles from the Wijayasundararama temple to Yapahuwa in the past with the participation of the king. Dambadeniya Dalada Perahera is considered to be the oldest Dalada Perahera of the country.
