Directs flights have been launched between Sri Lanka and Russia.
The flights between Russia and Sri Lanka so far took place via Dubai. The Sri Lankan Airlines has taken measures to launch direct flights between the two countries as a solution to avoid problems caused by this. It has resulted following the President’s visit to Russia. The maiden flight of the Sri Lankan Airlines from Moscow reached Bandaranaike International Airport last morning. Two weekly flights are expected to be operated. This was revealed at a media briefing held in Colombo under the patronage of Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena. He said that 13,278 tourists have arrived from Russia in 2010. This year more than 8000 Russian tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka up to August. It is expected that the tourist arrivals from Russia will increase to around 20,000 by the end of this year with the launch of the direct service.
