This country should be built for the future generations. Addressing the Muslim community in Colombo the President stated that his duty is to fulfill that responsibility.
He said that the challenge before him his whether to provide good houses in a beautiful area or to allow them to continue living in shanties. He said that a survey was done to recognize the requirements. Accordingly no one will be removed from the present locations but new houses will be built for them. He called on the people not to be duped by false propaganda. He said that the people in the city should be able to live freely and engage in their business without hindrance. They should think of providing better houses and better schools for their children. The meeting between the Muslim community in Colombo and the President took place at the Temple Trees last evening. More than 6000 people participated in the occasion. Addressing the gathering the President said that Colombo is a beautiful city but the beautification should not be confined only to the outside as the hearts of the people who live in the city should also be joyous. The President recalled that the so called heroes who represented the Muslims did nothing when they were brutally murdered in the north and in Muttur by the tiger terrorists. The President said that it was the present government that took measures to resettle them in their villages and provide them necessary facilities. The Kairiya Muslim Girls College in Borella was offered a land worth 32 million rupees on the intervention of the President following a proposal made by Azad Sally. Principal of the school Shihana Aslam expressed her appreciation to the President and the government.
