Petroleum Minister Susil Premajayanth denies reports of sub standard diesel being distributed by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
Premajayanth told The Sunday Leader that there is no problem with regard to the quality of the new consignment of diesel that is of a darker colour than the diesel stocks usually imported to the country.
He denied claims that the new diesel consignment was of inferior quality like the sub standard petrol imported by the CPC a few months back.
However, he admitted that the new diesel consignment was of a different colour than the usual diesel stocks.
“The colour is darker. I inspected the diesel myself, but the lab results have said there was nothing wrong with its quality,” he said.
He explained that the method used in the refinery process has resulted in the change in the colour of the stock of diesel and was not in any way connected to the quality of the fuel.
According to Premajayanth, there have not been any complaints made to the CPC with regard to problems after using the new diesel consignment. He added that both the CPC and LIOC diesel stocks were stored in one tank and complains have not been received from either of them.
