A five member committee has been appointed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.K. Illangakoon to look into the possibility of formulating a special salary system for police personnel.
The IGP had made the appointment following demands by police personnel for a special system to pay their salaries. Police personnel have said that they deserved a special salary system since policemen were on duty 24 hours a day, on duty during holidays and the risks involved in their work.
The committee headed by Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne has called on police personnel to submit their proposals to the committee by September 25th, 2011.
Police personnel are currently paid their salaries according to the administrative service circular although their work is special in nature.
