The government has ordered the rebuilding of the Muslim mosque inAnuradhapurathat was razed to0 the ground by a group led by Buddhist monks.
Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered the rebuilding of the mosque following a discussion today with the Sri Lanka Muslim Council.
The mosque was demolished by a group of monks who claimed it was built on a land belonging to the Buddhists some 2,000 years ago. The Muslims meanwhile have claimed the mosque was one and a half centuries old.
N.M. Ameen from the Sri Lanka Muslim Council has told the media that the Defence Secretary had given other directives on behalf of Muslims, including a guarantee that there would not be any interference in a Muslim ritual of animal sacrifice due to take place at a forthcoming festival as well.
