Minister Kumara Welgama has a solution to prevent train accidents. He has assured a new Signal system to replace the system which is more than 40 years old. Addressing newsman after a discussion with the General Manager, Signal Officers, Drivers and Guards, the Minister said that they had a signal network which is about 40 years old. Some days there were various faults, resulting in a breakdown in the operation of trains. He said it was imperative to go for a new signal system. A Cabinet paper had to be submitted and approval sought. Until then, the Minister said that they will have to be very cautious.
