Spartanburg changing rules on stray animals

Sep 20, 2011 8:02:00 AM - thestate.com
Spartanburg County is taking steps to comply with state law on how long stray animals must be held before they are euthanized.

Spartanburg County Council voted Monday to require that animals be held for five days before they are put down.

The Spartanburg Humane Society had for years held stray animals for three days before euthanizing them. State law requires a five-day waiting period.

The Humane Society already has changed the policy while county council changes the local laws to comply with the state law.

Councilman Michael Brown says the new policy could increase costs for the county by more than 50 percent.
