Nearly 70 of South Carolinas Republicans and Republican-leaning voters approve of Gov. Nikki Haleys performance.
But 23 percent say the first-term Lexington republican has failed to meet their expectations since taking office in January.
The results came from a new Winthrop University poll of 596 self-identified S.C. Republicans and independents who lean Republican. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.57 percent.
Haleys 69.3 percent approval rating among Republicans is low, said Scott Huffmon, a Winthrop political scientist and the polls author.
A popular Republican in office is going to have an approval rating in the 90th percentile, Huffmon said.
