The UNP has accused the governing UPFA of resorting violence and disrupting the party’s election campaign work.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanaayake has said incidents of violence have been reported fromColomboand Kolonnawa areas.
Attanayake has added that while unleashing violence, the government was also misusing public property in campaign work.
Meanwhile, the UNP has in writing requested the Elections Commissioner and the Senior DIG in-charge of elections to provide security to the Kolonnawa area to stop the incidents of violence taking place in the area.
The election offices of UNP candidate Anura Liyanage inWijaya Roadin Sedawatte and of former Chairman of Kolonnawa Urban Council Chithra Dias had been attacked and destroyed.
The UNP has also complained that a party supporter had been assaulted in Sangaraja Mawatha, causing damage to the vehicle of UNP mayoral candidate A. J. M. Muzammil in Bambalapitiya and the destruction of two election offices of two UNP candidates contesting for the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha.
