Construction work on the Upper Kotmale Power Plant has entered the final phase. It is the final mega hydropower plant under construction in Sri Lanka.
The Ministry of Power and Energy said that about 89 percent of the work on this Power Plant has been completed. Construction work on this 150 megawatt plant is being carried out in five stages and it is intended to add this power generated from the plant to the National Grid at the end of this year. The Power Plant is expected to produce 409 million units annually. 33,265 million yen has been provided as credit by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency for this project on concessionary terms. In addition the Ceylon Electricity is spending 8700 million rupees.
