A bridge is being constructed linking Manmunai and Kokkadicholai which will facilitate about 80 thousand in Batticaloa.
The Japanese Government has mediated in the construction of the bridge following an appeal made by Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan on the instructions of the President. A special meeting between the Deputy Minister and Japan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kunio Takahashi was held in Colombo today. Japan has given 1600 million rupees for the construction of the 500 metre long bridge. The related agreement has already been inked. Giving his views on this occasion the Japanese Ambassador said that they intended to provide more assistance to Sri Lanka in the future. The Deputy Minister referred to the need of a bridge in Kiran in Batticaloa.
