Cayce police warn of scams

Sep 21, 2011 5:49:00 PM - thestate.com
Police are warning people to be on the lookout for scam artists reported in Cayce.

Rodney Latimer is accused of trying to con female drivers out of money to fix their car in two separate incidents, Cayce police said in a statement.

In both cases, Latimer reportedly told the targeted driver that he saw sparks coming out their auto tailpipe as he was driving behind them. Claiming to be an auto mechanic, he tried to talk each woman into following him to an auto parts near Parklane Plaza shopping center, where the women were approached. Neither woman who reported the incidents to the Cayce Police Department gave Latimer any money.

Cayce police also warned against suspicious activity involving the bogus sale of a used car. Potential victims are lured to a secluded area near Julius Felder Street and Allen Street to see the car. Instead, one or more suspects attempt to rob them.

Anyone with information about either of these attempted crimes is urged to call the Cayce Department of Public Safety at 803-794-0456 and request the Investigative Division.
