Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has said that the attempts made to present the Darusman report before the UN Human Rights Committee have been defeated.
He said that all necessary measures will be taken at the forthcoming session as well. He expressed these views at a SLFP media briefing held today. The Minister said that the report has not been approved by the member countries of the UN or any other committee. He said that the current position is that Sri Lanka has explained that there is no legal or moral right to present the report before a committee.
The minister said that organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International that work against Sri Lanka are attempting to include it in the agenda. Therefore Sri Lanka has not given up its efforts. He said that Sri Lanka is attempting to draw the favour of the members of the Human Rights Committee while protesting against including it in the agenda. He expressed confidence that the efforts will be successful.
