Sri Lanka is the best example of effective development in South Asia.
A number of heads of state have greeted the President for the leadership provided for the country while steering it towards development. President Mahinda Rajapaksa held discussions with the leaders of Nepal, Colombia and Iran at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the discussion with Prime Minister of Nepal Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, the President stated that measures will be taken to commence a direct flight to Lumbini. The President recalled how he strived to develop Lumbini when he was a young Parliamentarian.
The two leaders stressed the need to further improve bilateral trade and economic ties. The Nepali Prime Minister stated that Sri Lanka is a good example of effective development in South Asia. The President also held discussions with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Calderon.
