Richland County authorities arrested Mark Dennis Anderson, 45, Thursday following complaints from across Columbia that a roofing repair contractor took money for jobs and disappeared without doing the work.
According to the Richland County Sheriffs Department, Anderson advertised his services as South Fork Roofing and Restoration. Hes been charged with six counts of obtaining property under false pretenses and breach of trust from incidents between Dec. 6, 2010, and July 10, 2011.
Victims told authorities that Anderson said he needed the money upfront to purchase the materials for the repairs but never returned to do the work, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
Authorities said Anderson took money from six victims from Woodbury Drive off Leesburg Road, Emerald Valley Road in northwest Richland County, Winterpark Road off Bluff Road, Parliament Drive in northeast Richland County, and Colony Drive off North Main Street.
In addition to the six Richland County counts, Anderson was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on five similar counts from Forest Acres.
