A Digital Map for the Jaffna District has been prepared.
The Digital Map, a joint effort of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Survey Department of Sri Lanka was handed over to Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Parliamentary complex yesterday. Japan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kunio Takahashi was also present on this occasion. Work on this Digital Map was launched following a basic agreement reached by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Economic Development Ministry in May last year. The Japanese Agency provided 616 million Yen on this work.
The present Map for the Northern Province is more than 10 years old. However, it was not possible to update the Map due to the conflict situation. Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that the Map drawn up with geographical information of the Jaffna District would be of significant value for the development and rehabilitation taking place in the area. Several Parliamentarians, including Minister Janaka Bandara Tennekoon were present.
