Bush fires have erupted in several forest reserves due to dry climatic weather conditions prevailing in most parts of the country.
Our correspondent reported that the fire which erupted in the Forest Reserve near the fourth bend of the “18 Wanguwa” is further spreading. This area comes under Randenigala, Rantembe and Victoria Reserve. Residents said that the fire had erupted on Thursday and there are doubts whether any group had caused the fire. Inquiries are being carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, eight houses have been destroyed in a fire which erupted in a Line Room in the Lindula area in Nuwara Eliya. The fire erupted in the Thilikutti estate in Lindula this afternoon. The Lindula Police said the fire may have started due to an electrical short circuit. However, the fire was doused with the mediation of the people of the area. Nearly 50 persons affected by the incident have been found shelter in a nearby school.
