LAWS TO MAKE DHAMMA SCHOOLS MANDATORY FOR CHILDREN ON SUNDAYS AND POYA DAYS

Provincial Chief Ministers have agreed to enact regulations to direct children to Dhamma Schools during Sundays and Poya Days.

 The consensus was reached at the 29th Chief Ministers Conference.  The Chief Ministers Conference was held in Embilipitiya. Media Spokesman of the Provincial Chief Ministers Conference North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake said that several agreements were reached at this year’s meeting. He said that these included the expansion of the indigenous system of medicine and encouraging Agriculture and Dairy Farming. He pointed out that another agreement reached at this meeting was to maintain an efficient passenger transport service in collaboration with the Central Government

 Mr. Dissanayake said that Finance Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera who joined in the meeting consented to granting funds to Provincial Councils again for Housing and Electrification Projects.  Senior Government Officials and Secretaries of all Provincial Councils were among those present.
