More rain on Columbia, same flooding

A line of thunderstorms dumped more rain on soggy Columbia on Sunday night, creating more high water on streets notorious for flooding.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning effective through 7:30 p.m. for central Richland County and some surrounding areas as the storm system moved northeast at around 10mph. A thunderstorm warning also was issued, effective through 7:15 p.m.
Emergency radio traffic indicated cars stuck in Olympia and on Bush River Road.
Much of Assembly Street between Blossom and Rosewood was impassable as late as 7:30 p.m. The flooding created some congestion as closed roads forced traffic to side streets.
City spokesman Brick Lewis said he parked across two lanes on Rosewood Street near South Ott to block off a half a block covered in standing water that claimed at least one car. The driver had to abandon the vehicle.
