Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has revealed of Government plans to sort out land disputes of small and medium scale entrepreneurs of the Colombo District.
Mr. Rajapaksa pointed out that preparing the groundwork in which the low income group lives was one of the important issues when development was taking place in Colombo. A plan was crafted after the conduct a census to gather statistics. It was found that 30,000 houses were immediately needed to be constructed, if a solution was to be found to this problem. Two years had passed since the launch of this project. Contractors had been entrusted to build 17,500 houses. The necessary sites have been identified to build the other houses. Accordingly it is planned to build between 30 and 40 thousand houses within three years. Then, the Defence Secretary said it would be possible to make an effective change that could be felt to the Colombo City.
A special gathering of the Colombo District small and medium scale entrepreneurs was held under the patronage of the Defence Secretary. The meeting was organized at the Defence Ministry. Special attention was drawn to problems encountered by these entrepreneurs. Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala and many Government officials attended this meeting.
