Many hidden secrets of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna have come to light. The party has split due to the leadership battle between Somawansa Amarasinghe and Premakumar Gunaratnam.
JVP internal sources have confirmed that the power struggle between the Somawansa Amarasinghe faction and the Premakumar Gunaratnam faction has reached the climax. All discussions to reach a consensus between these two factions have come a cropper. Both factions are tirelessly engaged in efforts to protect their power. The Gunaratnam faction is in the process of taking over the power of the party Head Office at Pelawatte. The Somawansa group is reported to be struggling to re-take the office by evicting the other faction.
A spokesman for the Somawansa Group told ITN that Lal Kantha, a former Parliamentarian had been deployed for this purpose. Even the Party’s Media Unit has been dissolved. Grass root level operations have been launched by the Somawansa faction and the Gunaratnam faction to consolidate their power by appraising the regional members. JVP internal sources have also confirmed that there would be a strong battle between senior, central and low grade members within the next few days.
Defence sources said that many secrets about the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna that had not surfaced were being uncovered. Informed sources pointed out that links between the JVP and anti social groups were surfacing with the disclosure of activities of Party leaders such as Premakumar Gunaratnam. It has already been revealed of flow of cash both locally and internationally behind the luxury lives of popular as well as hidden leaders. A moderate Spokesman of the JVP confirmed to ITN that within the next few days, hidden secrets of the rebel group of Premakumar Gunaratnam would be disclosed.
