The Legal Aid Commission has taken steps to register the marriages of those who had married under their religious rites during the period of conflict in the North and East.
The Legal Aid Commission in Trincomalee has said that the long drawn conflict had resulted in many people entering into matrimony according to their religious beliefs.
The failure to register the marriages had led to many problems when obtaining birth certificates for the children of the IDPs in welfare centers and others resettled in different places.
The lack of birth certificates for the children has resulted in difficulties when admitting them to schools.
However, the Legal Aid Commission during the past few weeks had taken measures to register the marriages of those who had married under their religious rites.
