solar-powered vessels makes Colombo port call
Colombo (Srilankamirror) - World's first and largest solar-powered vessel, Turanor Planet Solar, made a port call in Colombo yesterday (Nov 07).
Environment minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, the Swiss ambassador and other officials inspected the ship, which previously visited Galle Harbour.
The Swiss-registered ship set sail from Monaco in September last year on a worldwide mission aimed at promoting the use of sustainable energy.
With a length 30 meters and a width of 16 meters, the state-of-the-art catamaran has approximately 540 square meters decked with photovoltaic modules.
The 60-ton vessel sailed through the Americas in pacific and reaching Sri Lanka from Singapore.
