Columbia?s Municipal Election Commission met at 9 a.m. this morning and officially certified Tuesday?s runoff elections.
Voters elected attorney Steve Benjamin as the city?s next mayor and former City Manager Leona Plaugh as the city?s next District 4 representative.
The runoff election had a higher turnout than the general election on April 6, where seven candidates were on the ballot for mayor and five candidates were on the ballot for District 4.
Benjamin defeated current District 4 Councilman Kirkman Finlay while Plaugh defeated former Richland County Council Chairman Tony Mizzell.
