Chief: State of Benjamin's headlights part of investigation

Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter confirmed Friday morning that police are investigating whether Mayor-elect Steve Benjamin was driving without headlights during his early Wednesday morning wreck.

At least one of three eyewitnesses told police that the headlights on Benjamin's Mercedes SUV were not on, Carter said. Police are trying to confirm that, the chief said.
