Stormy Times Ahead For ‘Sirasa’

Apr 24, 2010 12:39:57 PM - thecolombotimes.com

There is a threat of termination of the broadcasting license of MBC media network of ‘Maharaja Group’ say reports. According to internal sources of MBC the threat is due to the appointment of Mervin Silva, known as an ardent enemy of the network, as the Deputy Minister of Media. Already, a special team has been deployed to collect data necessary to revoke the broadcasting license of the MBC network. A similar action was taken against ABC network of Parliamentarian Duminda Silva’s brother using broadcasting of a wrong news item as an excuse. Many have expressed their surprise at the appointment of Mervin Silva as the Deputy Minister of Media as he was the one who labeled ‘Sirasa’ as an institution sympathetic to tiger organization and publicly organized demonstrations against MBC network. He is also charged of directing the attack on ‘Sirasa’ recently. ‘Sirasa’ was attacked by goons transported by CTB buses belonging to Kelaniya CTB depot and led by several members of Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.
