SC officials to report January jobless rate

South Carolina has had one of the nation's highest unemployment rates for months and economists have said they expect it to go higher.
State employment officials are scheduled to release the state's January jobless rate on Wednesday.
Economists said last month that the state's chronically high unemployment rate could exceed 13 percent before it starts to get better.
In December, the rate reached a record 12.6 percent and statistics showed that fewer people were looking for work.
Economists said that was a bad sign because typically when a job market is turning around and you see higher jobless rates, it's because more people are looking for work. A shrinking labor force means more people are giving up.
