State disaster officials say the uninsured damages from a tornado that passed through South Carolina were not high enough to qualify for federal aid.
Emergency Management Division spokesman Derrec Becker said on Tuesday that total damages from Sunday's storm that hit Darlington County are valued at $5 million. But the uninsured amount was just $83,000. That does not meet the county's threshold for federal disaster assistance.
The South Carolina Insurance News Service said its member companies reported receiving fewer than 100 claims from the Darlington area as of Tuesday.
Three Darlington County schools and 32 homes were damaged by the tornado that had winds of up to 130 miles an hour and carved a path of damage that was up to 75 yards wide.
