SC children to receive ID kits this fall

South Carolina children in kindergarten and first grade will receive DNA and fingerprinting kits to help police more quickly locate missing children.
Advocates of the National Child ID Program said Wednesday more than 113,000 kits for inkless fingerprinting and DNA cheek swabs will be distributed this fall through public schools.
Parents use the kits and keep them at home.
Bret Phillips of the Dallas-based program says hopefully they will just be a keepsake, but if a child runs away or is taken, the information will help searching officers.
The effort is funded by $105,000 from Wal-Mart and a matching grant from the national program.
