A Nuclear Regulatory Commission panel has pushed back to June 30 the deadline to decide if a plan to build a national nuclear waste dump in Nevada should be shut down.
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board on Tuesday called a June 1 date set by the NRC "infeasible."
The safety and licensing board is an arm of the NRC.
It cites the complexity of the issue and a desire to hold oral arguments, and an issue about preserving project documents.
The federal Department of Energy says it has authority to withdraw its NRC application to build the Yucca Mountain repository 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
