A security officer fired on a driver he said tried to run him down in a motel parking lot this morning.
Richland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Motel 6 at 7541 Nates Road off Two Notch Road after reports came in of gunfire at the address. They took a statement from the security guard, who said:
Around 3:40 a.m., the guard, a sworn officer armed with a handgun, observed a man trying to break into a vehicle. He asked the man to stop and tried to arrest him, but the suspect got into a vehicle and tried to hit the officer with the vehicle.
The officer fired at the vehicle and damaged it, but did not hit the driver.
The sheriff's department has not yet released descriptions of the vehicle or suspect.
