Attorney general releasing SC gov investigation

May 3, 2010 4:13:00 AM - thestate.com
The results of a five-month investigation into South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's conduct are to be made public.

State Attorney General Henry McMaster has scheduled a Monday news conference to talk about whether the Republican governor should face criminal charges for his travel and his campaign reimbursements that brought charges he broke civil ethics laws.

In March, Sanford agreed to pay fines to settle the 37 ethics charges.

McMaster is running to replace the term-limited Sanford. He has been reviewing an ethics probe to decide whether to charge Sanford criminally.

Media investigations of Sanford's conduct began last June after he slipped his security detail and disappeared for five days, returning to confess an affair with an Argentine woman.
