A veterinarian serving a four-year sentence for a fatal hit-and-run was accidentally released after serving less than half her sentence. But after a weekend of freedom, Rachel Easterly is back in prison, according to the S.C. Department of Corrections.
Easterly, 45, of Surfside Beach, was released Friday but returned to prison Tuesday to serve more of a four-year prison sentence, according to records. She is set to be released Oct. 14, 2011.
The charge of Easterly’s crime was incorrectly entered into the computer and allowed for her early release, said Josh Gelinas, communication director with the state Department of Corrections. She returned to prison Tuesday without incident, he said Wednesday.
“When she was entered in the system we incorrectly entered the crime as hit-and-run.
