South Carolina regulators will listen to public comments about a utility's request to raise rates.
The public can comment on the request by South Carolina Electric & Gas on Thursday evening at Aiken Technical College in Graniteville.
SCE&G is seeking a rate increase to help pay for equipment it has installed on its coal-burning plants to meet environmental standards for emissions.
The company originally requested a 9.5 percent rate hike, but has reached an agreement with the state Office of Regulatory Staff to offer customers credits and reduce its profit margin to bring the rate increase down to about 6.5 percent.
The request is in addition to higher rates the company is charging to help pay for two nuclear reactors it is planning to build.
