New school for chaplains at SC's Fort Jackson

May 6, 2010 4:04:00 AM - thestate.com
Chaplains who serve the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are coming together to dedicate themselves and a new school to the mission of tending warriors' souls.

Armed Forces Chaplaincy Center Director Col. Steven Keith says Thursday's ceremony caps a five-year process. In 2005, the Pentagon and Congress ordered the military's multiple chaplain and chaplain assistant schools to merge.

The center will educate more than 2,500 chaplains and chaplain assistants each year.

The school offers interfaith education so chaplains who are priests, ministers, Imams or rabbis may assist military men and women of any belief. It also retains instruction unique to each military service branch.
