A worker at the BMW plant in South Carolina lost his arm in a construction accident and doctors hoped to reattach the limb.
Multiple media outlets reported the employee had his arm severed between the elbow and wrist Wednesday morning at the plant in Greer.
BMW spokesman Bobby Hitt says the man was driving a device similar to a forklift when he went through a doorway and his arm struck a beam and was severed.
The man's name has not been released. He was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital and Hitt says doctors were taking steps in hopes of reattaching the arm.
State and company officials are investigating.
