Before they wind up on a plate, one South Carolina city is giving some lobsters their day in the spotlight.
Aiken is hosting the annual lobster race on Friday evening. The first race was held more than 30 years ago by a group of friends as a spoof of the Kentucky Derby.
The event has since grown. Now it's held annually at the city's Newberry Street Center which includes both a lobster racing track and a stage for entertainment. There are also children's rides, food vendors and local bands.
The race is also a chance for residents to get reacquainted. Many Aiken residents who have moved away traditionally return each year for the lobster races.
