Sri Lanka’s record-breaking spinner Muttiah Muralitharan came back from injury sooner than expected on Friday and may have paid the price for a rushed return.
The all-time top wicket-taker in test and one-day international cricket was initially ruled out of the World Twenty20 with a strained right adductor muscle.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board said on Monday he would need up to three weeks to recover but on Friday he bowled four overs in the 57-run win over Super Eight Group F opponents West Indies.
The team’s Australian coach Trevor Bayliss said after the game that the spinner, who had figures of nought for 26, was struggling.
